RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and honoring the memory of Mrs. Pearl J. Stephens; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Pearl J. Stephens was recently inducted into the Houston County Teacher
Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS,
the Hall of Fame honors those extraordinary teachers who have made a significant
difference in the lives of their students; and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Pearl J. Stephens spent more than 25 years as an outstanding classroom
teacher, teaching first at Sandy Run Baptist Church; and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Stephens offered the board of education land to build a school and a
two-room schoolhouse was built, being the black community's first tax supported
school; and
WHEREAS,
she was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for
integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness; her loyalty, competency,
reliability, and enthusiasm distinguished her superlative service to public
education in this state, and she passed away in 1980; and
WHEREAS,
her deep personal commitment to her duties as well as her great compassion for
the students she taught earned for her the respect and admiration of the people
with whom she worked.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body honor the memory of Mrs. Pearl J. Stephens for her many decades of
efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated service to public education in
Georgia.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of
Mrs. Pearl J. Stephens.
