A RESOLUTION


Honoring the life of and expressing regret at the passing of Lillard W. Gibbs; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, on March 10, 2008, the State of Georgia lost one of its finest and most distinguished citizens with the passing of Lillard W. Gibbs; and

WHEREAS, he was born on April 14, 1929, in Tracy City, Tennessee, son of the late Luke and Jessie Parsons Gibbs, and attended Grundy High School in Tracy City, going on to receive a Bachelor of Arts degree from Tennessee Tech, a master's degree from Middle Tennessee State University, and a Certificate of Leadership from the University of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, this long-time resident of Franklin County was recognized by the citizens of his community for the vital role he played in leadership and for his deep personal commitment to the welfare of the citizens of Georgia and the United States; and

WHEREAS, he diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of his time, talents, and energy toward the betterment of his community as evidenced dramatically by over 41 years of dedicated and superlative service to the field of education, the last of those 26 years being served in the Franklin County School System, and the last four as the Franklin County Superintendent of Schools; and

WHEREAS, this extraordinary man also served as an active member the Cattleman's Association, the Carnesville Lions Club, the Young Farmers, Toccoa Little League, and AMIDEC, and was a faithful member of the Franklin County Church of Christ; and

WHEREAS, he was a loving husband to his wife, Jo Ann Keys Gibbs, and a devoted father to his son and three daughters, and a doting grandfather to his six grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, he was renowned for his significant organizational and leadership talents, his remarkable patience and diplomacy, his keen sense of vision, and his sensitivity to the needs of the citizens of his community, earning him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and associates; and

WHEREAS, this singular gentleman was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body express their deepest and most sincere regret at the passing of Lillard W. Gibbs, and honor his life of efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated service to his community and the state.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Lillard W. Gibbs.
