A
RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Martiti and George E. Mundy; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Martiti Mundy, local celebrated artist, and George Mundy, fourth generation
attorney, have been selected by the Cedartown Performing Arts Center as the
2007-2008 recipients of the Citizen of Excellence Award, honoring individuals
who have made outstanding contributions to the arts and have supported the
furtherance of the arts in Polk County, Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
Martiti Mundy has been a lifelong resident of Cedartown, graduating from
Cedartown High School where she played basketball, was homecoming queen, and was
valedictorian of her class, and upon graduation she attended Queens College in
Charlotte, North Carolina, graduating magna cum laude with a bachelor's degree
in art; and
WHEREAS,
as an artist she has developed a unique and realistic style in mediums of
watercolor and pen and ink, and her art work graces many of the homes and
businesses in the Cedartown area; and
WHEREAS,
an active member of her community, she taught children's art lessons for many
years; designed the official seal of the City of Cedartown; and is a sustaining
member of the Junior Service League, a past member of the Cedartown Auditorium
Association, a past member of the Main Street Advisory Board, an active member
of the First United Methodist Church, having taught children's Sunday school for
over 20 years, and a past president of United Methodist Women; and
WHEREAS,
George E. Mundy is also a lifelong resident of Cedartown, attending Cedartown
High School where he was a member of the 1963 State Champion football team,
going on to Emory University where he earned a bachelor's degree in history,
followed by a Juris Doctorate from the University of Georgia School of Law in
Athens, Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
he is a member and past president of the State Bar of Georgia, a member and past
president of the Southern Conference of Bar Presidents, a past Georgia State
delegate to the American Bar Association, a member and past president of the
Tallapoosa Circuit Bar Association, past chairman of the Polk County Chamber of
Commerce, current member of the Polk County Development Authority, a member of
the board of directors of the W. D. Trippe Charitable Foundation, first
president of the Board of Directors of the Murphy Harpst Family and Children
Services, a founding member and past chairman of the Cedartown Main Street
Advisory Board, a member and past president of the Cedartown Kiwanis Club, a
member and past drive chairman of the Cedartown United Fund, a member and past
president of Cedartown Historical Society, a current member of the Cedartown
Historic Preservation Commission, and a member and past president of the
Cherokee Golf and Country Club; and
WHEREAS,
he served in the United States Air Force Judge Advocate General Corps for four
years, and he is an active member of the First United Methodist Church and was a
senior high Sunday school teacher for over 20 years; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that we recognize the accomplishments and
contributions of these two outstanding Georgians.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body join together to recognize and commend Martiti and George E. Mundy for
their outstanding contributions to their community and the state, and
congratulate them up being the recipients of the Citizen of Excellence
award.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is hereby
authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to
Martiti and George E. Mundy.
