A
RESOLUTION
Commending
the East Laurens High School Falcons boys basketball team; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the East Laurens High School Falcons boys basketball team has established and
maintained a proud tradition of excellence in boys basketball with equal
emphases on character and academics; and
WHEREAS,
this superlative team has completed another ultra successful season of
basketball competition by posting an outstanding record of 30 wins and only two
losses; and
WHEREAS,
the Falcons rallied through the state playoffs, and as a fitting finale to their
remarkable 2008 campaign, the team captured 2nd place in the Class AA State
Championships after taking 1st place in the Region 4AA Regional playoffs in
2008, becoming Region 4AA Champions for the second year in a row;
and
WHEREAS,
the phenomenal performance of this team is a clear indication of the outstanding
athletic ability, the dedication and hard work, and the unity of purpose and
spirit of each member of the team; and
WHEREAS,
the determination and competitive spirit of the exceptional players contributed
to the success of the team and offered them memories they will cherish for a
lifetime; this amazing team consisted of the following players: Jonathan Horne,
Travis Johnson, Ken Taylor, Willie Newkirk, Jimmy "Boone" Williams, Jr.,
Krystopher Thomas, Antwan Bailey, Terrance Lewis, Chris Cephus, Santonio Lewis,
and Alex Battle; and
WHEREAS,
all of these team players have benefitted greatly from the expert training,
dedication, and encouragement provided by Head Coach Jimmy Williams and Coaches
Paul Conyers and Woodrow Carswell, as well as the support of the East Laurens
High School faculty, their many dedicated fans, and their loving family members;
and
WHEREAS, this magnificent team performed with precision during the season and earned its well deserved reputation for high standards of athletic achievement, the quality of its play, and the stiff competition which it presented its opponents; and

WHEREAS,
these hard working young people are outstanding role models for all young
Georgians, consistently demonstrating the high standards of hard work,
perseverance, team work, and, above all, good sportsmanship.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend the East Laurens High School Falcons boys basketball team for
its unparalleled achievements and extend their sincerest best wishes for
continued success in the future.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to East Laurens
High School and Head Coach Jimmy Williams.
