RESOLUTION
Recognizing
John Faircloth; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
John Faircloth, a distinguished resident of Thomasville, Georgia, and currently
a member of the Dawson Street Baptist Church, has been a faithful servant of the
church for many years and continues as an active Gideon in the Thomasville
community; and
WHEREAS,
in March 1948, John and several other men of the community began a prison
ministry which continues to this day at the Thomas County Prison, including
conducting church services at the prison each Sunday, and when a state grant
became available, the ministry expanded to include a full program of Bible study
on Monday and Tuesday, church services on Wednesday and Sunday, and vocational
courses for the inmates in coordination with the Thomas County Area Technical
School; and
WHEREAS,
for many years, John has served as an unpaid counselor for the prison and
continues to remain on call for counseling support any time he is needed; he has
worked with local churches to provide counseling to the men when they were
released from prison; and he has helped find jobs for many of them after they
paid their debt to society; and
WHEREAS,
in 1997, the Thomasville-Thomas County Chamber of Commerce recognized his
selfless giving to the community and to the Thomas County inmates in awarding
him with the well-deserved humanitarian award; and
WHEREAS,
John has loved and prayed for these men for over 60 years.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body recognize John Faircloth for his giving heart and loving spirit in
ministering to the inmates of Thomas County Prison.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to John
Faircloth.
