RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending the Savannah Chatham Metropolitan Police Department; and for
other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia lost nine of its finest citizens in the explosion at the
Imperial Sugar Company refinery in Port Wentworth, Georgia, on February 7, 2008;
and
WHEREAS,
hundreds of law enforcement officials, doctors, paramedics, chaplains, blood
donors, pilots, mothers, fathers, sons, and daughters bravely converged on the
scene of the disaster to help; and
WHEREAS,
the Savannah Chatham Metropolitan Police Department, involved in handling the
traffic along the route for the funeral processions held in Savannah, did an
exemplary job and are to be commended for their outstanding efforts,
particularly Sergeant Torrence Garvin and Advanced Police Officers Ben Kirksey
and Eugene Solomon; and
WHEREAS,
in the face of mortal challenges, the communities of Port Wentworth and Savannah
strode forward in healing, walking as brothers and sisters in arms.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body join together in recognizing the exemplary efforts of the Savannah
Chatham Metropolitan Police Department and commend them for their outstanding
performance.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is hereby
authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copies of this resolution to
the Savannah Chatham Metropolitan Police Department, Sergeant Torrence Garvin,
and Advanced Police Officers Ben Kirksey and Eugene Solomon.
