A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Randy McPherson as head football coach and athletic director for Lowndes High School; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, due to the superior coaching abilities of Athletic Director and Head Coach Randy McPherson, the Lowndes High School Vikings football team won the 2007 AAAAA State Championship; and

WHEREAS, Coach McPherson is a 1979 graduate of Lake Worth High School in Lake Worth, Florida, and he has a Bachelor of Science degree in education from Bethel College in Kansas, where he played football and was named an All-American in 1982; and

WHEREAS, he began his coaching career in 1983 as a graduate assistant at Bethel, transferring to Madison County (Florida) High School in 1984, where he was an assistant coach, and from there to Suwannee High School as an assistant coach in 1985, returning to Madison to serve as assistant coach and defensive coordinator before being named head coach in 1996; and

WHEREAS, Coach McPherson coached Madison County High School to its first district title in 1996, and for the next five years in a row, his team held that title; and

WHEREAS, they appeared in 21 playoff games including two state championship games, winning it in 2001; and

WHEREAS, in 2002, he became the head football coach and athletic director at Lowndes High School, and, in his first year, he led his team to the first round of playoffs, and to the second round in 2003, and finally in 2004, he coached his team to a perfect 15-0 season and won the AAAAA State Championship title; and
WHEREAS, in 2005, Coach McPherson and his Viking team made LHS history by winning back-to-back state championship titles, with the team completing the season with a 14-1 record; and

WHEREAS, in compiling a 123-30 record, Coach McPherson has won eight region championships, completed four undefeated regular seasons, and won three state championships; and

WHEREAS, he received Florida Coach of the Year honors twice, and since coming to Lowndes High School, he has received the 2004 Overall Coach of the Year Award from the Atlanta Touchdown Club, the 2005 GACA Overall Coach of the Year Award, the 2004 Athletic Director of the Year Award, and the 2005 Athletic Director of the Year Award; and

WHEREAS, he and his wife, Deonne, have two sons, Will and Mitch, and they are members of the First Methodist Church of Lake Park.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize Athletic Director and Head Coach Randy McPherson and commend him on his outstanding career.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit a copy of this resolution to Athletic Director and Head Coach Randy McPherson.
