A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Jimmy B. Lord; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Jimmy B. Lord has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the vital role that he has played in community leadership and his deep personal commitment to the citizens of his community and the State of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, he has diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of his time, talents, and energy toward the betterment of his state as evidenced dramatically by his years of dedicated service to his community as a Mason and as a member of the General Assembly of Georgia, where he served as Chairman of the Defense and Veterans Affairs Committee from 1989 through 1991 and Chairman of the Insurance Committee from 1992 through 2002; and

WHEREAS, he was born and raised in Washington County, Georgia, and graduated in 1954 from Harrison High School, and later from John A. Gupton School of Mortuary Science; and

WHEREAS, from 1968 through 1976, he served as the Coroner of Washington County and presently, when not performing his duties as a member of the House of Representatives, he is a businessman; and

WHEREAS, he has been blessed with two daughters, Kathy and Rhonda; and

WHEREAS, this beloved individual has exhibited extraordinary devotion to duty, outstanding loyalty, fine leadership, remarkable patience and diplomacy, a keen sense of vision, and sensitivity to the needs of the members of the General Assembly which have earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and associates and the members of this body in particular; and

WHEREAS, he is a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness; his loyalty, competency, reliability, and enthusiasm have distinguished his superlative service to this state; and

WHEREAS, he has announced that he will not run for another term upon completion of his present term, and it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Jimmy B. Lord for his many decades of efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service to the citizens of his state; congratulate him upon the grand occasion of his retirement; and extend to him their most sincere best wishes for continued health and happiness.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Jimmy B. Lord.
