A RESOLUTION


Expressing regret at the passing of Mrs. Hattie Guinn Watkins; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Hattie Guinn Watkins grew up in Scottdale, Georgia, and graduated from the Avondale Colored High School in May of 1948; and

WHEREAS, she married Alfred Willie Watkins, who became assistant pastor at Sylvester Baptist Church, and the couple raised ten children; and in the early years of their marriage she supplemented the family income by working as a domestic housekeeper for white families, where her employers quickly discovered that she was more than a good worker, she was good company and a wonderful person; and

WHEREAS, after working as a housekeeper at Agnes Scott College, she began working for the DeKalb County schools in 1970, and she worked there until the time of her retirement; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Watkins´ funeral arrangements were handled by Willie A. Watkins Funeral Home, which she helped her son establish and where she often helped out after her regular work; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Hattie Guinn Watkins went to her Lord after 75 wonderful years of life, and she is survived by her loving husband, six sons, two daughters, and many other family members and friends; and

WHEREAS, it is only right and proper that this fine lady be remembered for her life of giving and loving.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body express regret at the passing of Mrs. Hattie Guinn Watkins and convey condolences to her grieving family and friends.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Alfred Willie Watkins.
