RESOLUTION
Congratulating
and commending Varnell Elementary School for earning the Platinum Award; and for
other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Varnell Elementary School was one of 27 schools in this state to earn the
Platinum Award from the Governor's Office of Student Achievement for making the
greatest gains in student performance; and
WHEREAS,
to earn the Platinum Award, schools must make Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for
three consecutive years, demonstrate that at least 35 percent of students exceed
standards in all test areas as measured by state assessments, and place in the
98th percentile or higher state-wide in greatest student achievement gains;
and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that Varnell Elementary School be recognized
appropriately upon the illustrious occasion of this impressive
achievement.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body heartily congratulate the teachers of Varnell Elementary School and
its principal, Dr. Ellen Thompson, for earning the Platinum Award from the
Governor's Office of Student Achievement and commend them for their efforts to
improve education in their community and this state.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Dr. Ellen
Thompson and Varnell Elementary School.
