A
RESOLUTION
Supporting
the Georgia Federation of Republican Women's Condemnation of the actions of the
City of Berkely, California; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the City of Berkeley, California, voted to oust the United States Marine Corps
recruiters from their city by sending a letter to the U.S. Marines, calling them
"unwanted intruders" for opening a recruiting center in the City of Berkeley,
thus showing a total disrespect for the brave men and women serving in the
Marine Corps; and
WHEREAS,
the United States Marine Corps has served our country with valor and high honor
in every battle for freedom since its conception on November 10, 1775, to the
present in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan and in Operation Iraqi
Freedom in Iraq; and
WHEREAS,
the brave men and women of the U.S. Marines have sacrificed their lives and
well-being in defense of our precious freedoms, which is evident by a total of
41,040 Marines having been killed in action and 162,198 Marines having been
wounded in action during the illustrious history of the Marine Corps' service to
our nation; and
WHEREAS,
from the Halls of
Montezuma to the Shores of Tripoli, the
U.S. Marines have stood fast to protect our nation with their motto "SEMPER
FIDELIS" which means "always faithful"; and
WHEREAS,
the United States has awarded our nation's highest honor, the Congressional
Medal of Honor, to only 850 recipients since 1918, and in this special group of
gallant individuals are 296 Marines, one of these heroes being General Raymond
Davis from Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
President George W. Bush has written, "A nation can be judged in part by how it
honors its heroes."
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that this body
supports the Georgia Federation of Republican Women's condemnation of the City
of Berkeley, California, for its careless disregard for the service and
sacrifice of the U. S. Marines.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this body commends the efforts of the Georgia
Federation of Republican Women's support of any and all actions by the members
of the United States Congress to deny any federal funding to the City of
Berkeley, California, due to the city's reckless insults to the United States
Marine Corps.
