RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest Georgia; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest Georgia is to enable
young people, especially those who need it most, to reach their full potential
as productive, caring, and responsible citizens; and
WHEREAS,
originally named the Boys & Girls Club of Rome, it proudly opened its doors
in 1953 in a single building known as the West Rome Unit and is currently in its
55th year of operation; and
WHEREAS,
girls were invited into the club in 1990, at which time it was renamed the Boys
& Girls Club of Rome; and
WHEREAS,
tremendous growth over the past 15 years has created the need to branch out to
the surrounding areas and other counties, creating satellite sites at area
schools; and
WHEREAS,
the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest Georgia operate as a nonprofit
organization relying totally on generous donors and volunteers to keep the doors
open and the operation running; and
WHEREAS,
the outstanding core programs within the organization are education and career
development, character and leadership development, health and life skills, arts
and sports, and fitness and recreation, and they serve an average of 200 to 250
youth members ages five through 18 years old; and
WHEREAS,
through other community-wide programs, such as the club's football program, they
reach out to thousands of youth outside the club every year; and
WHEREAS,
they will open a new 15,000 square foot facility in South Rome, and it is
anticipated that it will serve an average of 270 youth daily; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper for this body to recognize with
particularity the outstanding accomplishments of this extraordinary
organization.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body join together in recognizing the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest
Georgia and commend it on the outstanding services it provides for the youth in
its community and this state.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Boys
& Girls Clubs of Northwest Georgia.
