RESOLUTION
Commending
Ralph Puckett; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Ralph Puckett has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the
vital role that he has played in leadership and for his deep personal commitment
to the welfare of the citizens of Georgia and the United States;
and
WHEREAS,
Ralph Puckett, a native of Tifton, Georgia, is retiring again from service to
his country after 12 years as an Honorary Colonel of the 75th Ranger Regiment at
Fort Benning, Georgia, where he observed training and shared his knowledge and
expertise daily with the next generation of Army Rangers; and
WHEREAS,
he graduated in 1949 from the United States Military Academy and formed,
trained, and commanded the Eighth Army Ranger Company as a second and first
lieutenant; and
WHEREAS,
he has earned two Distinguished Service Crosses, two Silver Stars, three Legions
of Merit, two Bronze Stars, the Commendation Medal, ten Air Medals, and five
Purple Hearts in addition to the Cross of Gallantry with Palm from the Republic
of Viet Nam and the Order of Merit from Columbia; and
WHEREAS,
he retired from the Army as a colonel in 1971 after 22 years of service and he
was an inaugural inductee into the U. S. Army Ranger Hall of Fame in
1992 for extraordinary valor and distinguished service as a Ranger qualified
leader; and
WHEREAS,
in 2007, he received the prestigious Doughboy Award that recognizes individuals
who have contributed greatly to the cause of the infantry soldier;
and
WHEREAS,
his significant organizational and leadership talents, his remarkable patience
and diplomacy, his keen sense of vision, and his sensitivity to the needs of the
citizens of this nation have earned him the respect and admiration of his
colleagues and associates; and
WHEREAS,
he is a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for
integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this
remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend Ralph Puckett for his many years of efficient, effective,
unselfish, and dedicated service to this state and nation and extend to him
their most sincere best wishes for continued health and happiness.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Ralph
Puckett.
