RESOLUTION
Honoring
the life of Robert S. "Bob" Boney and dedicating the Robert S. "Bob" Boney
State Prison in his memory; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Robert S. "Bob" Boney served as Mayor of the City of Leesburg in Lee County,
Georgia, for 17 years; and
WHEREAS,
Mayor Boney served as a leader of the City of Leesburg in an exemplary manner
with total and complete devotion to the City of Leesburg and its citizens;
and
WHEREAS,
he prepared to serve as Mayor of Leesburg as a businessman, as a Marine Corps
veteran of World War II, as a revenue agent for the State of Georgia for ten
years, and as warden of Lee County Correctional Institute, now Lee State Prison,
for 20 years; and
WHEREAS,
Mayor Boney has also served the Leesburg Shrine Club, the Peace Officers
Association of Georgia, and many other civic, public, and governmental
organizations, not only in Lee County, but throughout the state, as he sought to
give back to his community a portion of that which had been given to him;
and
WHEREAS,
he was also a family man, being a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and
a member of the Leesburg United Methodist Church for many years;
and
WHEREAS,
he was recently honored by a proclamation of the United States House of
Representatives spread upon the Congressional Record on Wednesday, September 5,
2007, said proclamation having been sponsored by Representative Sanford Bishop
of the Second Congressional District; and
WHEREAS,
Mayor Boney was a dedicated public servant striving daily for the betterment of
Leesburg, Lee County, and its citizens to the extent that even illnesses could
not deter him from continuing his labor of love for the people he represented as
mayor; and
WHEREAS, it is only fitting and appropriate to honor Mayor Boney for his lifetime of service and dedication to the people of Leesburg and Lee County.

NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA that the members of
this body offer their sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Robert
S. "Bob" Boney upon his passing.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Corrections shall dedicate the Lee
State Prison as the Robert S. "Bob" Boney State Prison and that the department
procure and provide for the placement of any and all signs and markings as may
be determined appropriate to so dedicate the prison.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of
Robert S. "Bob" Boney and to the Department of Corrections.
