A
RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Mr. Sanford Freeman; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mr. Sanford Freeman has been named Jefferson High School's STAR teacher for
2008; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Sanford has been teaching for 26 years, beginning his career in Athens,
Georgia, at the upper school as a teacher and football coach for five years,
continuing on to the middle school for 20 years, and moving to Jefferson High
School in 2006; and
WHEREAS,
at Jefferson High School, he teaches a variety of social studies courses and
sponsors the Academic Bowl team, and this past fall he designed and launched an
Advanced Placement U. S. History program; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Freeman is from Decatur, Georgia, although his family is originally from the
Hoschton and Dacula areas; and
WHEREAS,
he graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in journalism in 1975;
and returned in the early 1980's to obtain graduate degrees in Social Sciences
Education and Education Administration; and
WHEREAS,
he spent four years in the U. S. Navy as a navigation officer and two years in
the corporate world with Proctor and Gamble; and
WHEREAS,
he is married to the former Jan Shurbutt of Elberton, Georgia, who works with
the Terry College of Business, and they have five wonderful daughters, ages
18-25.
WHEREAS,
he is a shining example of the important impact that the efforts of individual
classroom teachers make on the quality of education received by the children of
this state, and it is abundantly fitting and proper that his superlative
accomplishments be recognized.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body heartily and gratefully commend Mr. Sanford Freeman for his sacrifice, foresight, accomplishment, and contributions on behalf of education in Georgia and for the positive influence he has had upon the lives and futures of so many young people in this state and congratulate him upon his selection as a STAR teacher.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body heartily and gratefully commend Mr. Sanford Freeman for his sacrifice, foresight, accomplishment, and contributions on behalf of education in Georgia and for the positive influence he has had upon the lives and futures of so many young people in this state and congratulate him upon his selection as a STAR teacher.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Sanford
Freeman.
