RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Susan J. Kelley, PhD, for her support of the Georgia
International Law Enforcement Exchange and inviting her to appear before the
House of Representatives; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Susan J. Kelley has outstandingly served as the Dean and Professor of the
College of Health and Human Sciences at Georgia State University;
and
WHEREAS,
Dr. Kelley came to Georgia State with a wealth of prior experience, including
her service as chairperson and professor of the Department of Maternal-Child
Health Nursing at Boston College, Director of Nursing Education for
Massachusetts Emergency Medical Services, and pediatric nurse at Columbia
Presbyterian Hospital and Boston City Hospital; and
WHEREAS,
Dr. Kelley specialized in the field of child abuse and since 1980 has published
more than 50 journal articles and book chapters on various aspects of child
abuse; she is a fellow in the American Academy of Nursing and a member of
numerous child abuse and nursing professional societies; and
WHEREAS,
as further evidence of her amazing achievements and contributions to society,
Dr. Kelley has received several national awards including the March of Dimes
National Nurse of the Year award, American Nurses´ Association Nurse of the
Year Award, Excellence in Research Award from the Society of Pediatric Nursing,
and Outstanding Service Award from the American Professional Society on Abuse of
Children; and
WHEREAS,
Susan J. Kelley is also most noted for her tremendous and long-standing support
for the Georgia International Law Enforcement Exchange (GILEE) program;
and
WHEREAS,
with the support of talented people like Dr. Kelley, GILEE has been able to grow
and develop first-rate programs for the national and international exchange of
outstanding law enforcement personnel, allowing such expert police officers and
public safety leaders to learn from each other through hands-on meetings and
operations around the country and around the world; and
WHEREAS,
the valuable support of Dr. Kelley and others has helped GILEE achieve a state,
national, and international reputation as a leader in the exchange of law
enforcement ideas and initiatives and such an exchange of information has led to
the tremendous development of ideas around the globe, for increasing national
security and world peace; and
WHEREAS,
it is only fitting and proper that a person, such as Dr. Kelley, who has
personally contributed so much to education, public safety, and security be
appropriately recognized.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body honor and commend Susan J. Kelley for her outstanding service to the
State of Georgia, to the United States, and to world peace and invite her to
appear before the House of Representatives at a date and time to be determined
by the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Susan J.
Kelley.
