A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Mr. George A. Wood; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mr. George A. Wood has served the City of Statesboro, Georgia, as city manager since October 1, 2000; and

WHEREAS, during his tenure as city manager, he directed the successful renovation of the David H. Averitt Center for the Arts and the construction of a new 25,000 square foot police station; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Wood was responsible for the development and implementation of the city's subdivision ordinance as a measure to encourage residential growth inside the city's corporate boundaries; and

WHEREAS, as a testament to the stability of its financial condition while under his watch, the City of Statesboro received an unqualified audit opinion each year; and

WHEREAS, under his direction, the City of Statesboro received four consecutive Government Finance Officer's Association Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards and three consecutive Excellence in Financial Reporting Awards; and

WHEREAS, during Mr. Wood's tenure, the City of Statesboro received state-wide recognition, winning both the Georgia Municipal Association's Cities of Excellence Award and the City of Ethics Award, exemplifying the highest ethical standards for public officials; and

WHEREAS, Mr. George A. Wood has served the City of Statesboro in an exemplary manner for the past seven years in his capacity as city manager, providing excellent managerial advice and counsel to the mayor, city council, and management staff on a myriad of issues.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and commend Mr. George A. Wood for his dedicated and conscientious service to the City of Statesboro and the State of Georgia.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. George A. Wood.
