RESOLUTION
Commending
Mrs. Vivian Creighton Bishop; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Vivian Creighton Bishop was born at Fort Benning, Georgia, into a military
family and had an exceptionally international childhood, living in various
locations throughout the United States and Europe and graduating from high
school in Germany; and
WHEREAS,
she attended Columbus Technical College and Georgia State University in Atlanta;
and
WHEREAS,
she currently serves as Clerk of the Municipal Court of Columbus, Georgia, and
is the first African American female to be elected to a city-wide post in
Columbus; and
WHEREAS,
she is the celebrated recipient of a number of awards including the outstanding
community service award from the Columbus Professional Women in 1993 and 1995, a
Citizen of the Month award in 1995, the Outstanding Achievement in Community
Involvement award in 1999, the Women on the Rise award in 2001, the Kiwanis
Public Service award in 2002, and the Big Sister / Big Brother Big Heart award
in 2004; and
WHEREAS,
she is lovingly married to U.S. Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr., and has been
blessed with one daughter, Aayesha; and
WHEREAS,
she has been selected to serve as the president of the Congressional Club, an
organization founded in 1908 dedicated to charity and to providing a nonpartisan
setting for friendships among the spouses of members of the House and Senate,
making her the first African American president of this historic organization;
and
WHEREAS,
as her talents, generosity, and leadership expertise have been recognized
throughout the nation, she has brought honor to the State of Georgia.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body join together in congratulating Mrs. Vivian Creighton Bishop on her
selection as the president of the Congressional Club.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mrs. Vivian
Creighton Bishop.
