A
RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Coach Ricky Turner; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Ricky Turner attended St. Pius High School and went on to play football for the
University of Georgia, where he graduated in 1991; and
WHEREAS,
he began his coaching career at Salem High School where he taught and coached
from 1992 until 1997, continuing his coaching and teaching career at St. Pius
High School from 1997 until 2000; and
WHEREAS,
in 2000, he became the founding athletic director at Blessed Trinity High
School, the first employee to be hired at the school; and
WHEREAS,
as the athletic director he was responsible for establishing the athletic
program, building the fields, ordering the uniforms and equipment, and
coordinating with the principal to hire coaching staff; and
WHEREAS,
he started the varsity program in the third year of the school's existence, and
thus far the team has won 13 state championships and 21 regional championships;
and
WHEREAS,
Coach Turner's team won the overall cup and the girls cup in 2004, which
captured for his team the 2004 directors cup, given to the top AA program in the
state; and
WHEREAS,
he is the head football coach and has been since the opening of the school and
took his team to a region championship in the team's third year;
and
WHEREAS,
he again received the directors cup in 2007, for winning the girls cup;
and
WHEREAS,
Coach Turner is most proud of receiving the 2007 Region Sportsmanship Award,
which encompassed the schools in 15 regions voting for the team with the best
sportsmanship; and
WHEREAS,
Coach Turner and his wife, Lynn, are the proud parents of four sons, Ricky, a
freshman at Blessed Trinity, Justin, and twin boys Matthew and
Christopher.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend Coach Ricky Turner and recognize his outstanding
career.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Coach Ricky
Turner.
