RESOLUTION
Commending
and recognizing Dr. Dorothy L. Lord for 17 years of service as president of
Coastal Georgia Community College; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
for 17 years Dr. Dorothy L. Lord has been a visionary leader who has established
Coastal Georgia Community College as a college that provides life-changing
experiences for those who attend; and
WHEREAS,
Dr. Lord has worked tirelessly to transform the lives of Coastal Georgia
residents by promoting the availability of quality education; and
WHEREAS,
Dr. Lord has established community and industry partnerships in the Coastal
Georgia area to ensure an educated workforce that is essential for the
area´s economic growth; and
WHEREAS,
Dr. Lord has received numerous awards and recognition for her service, including
the 2005 Phi Delta Kappa Service Key Award for meritorious leadership in service
to public education; a scholarship established in her name in 2002 by the
Fourteen Black Men of Glynn; being named a Paul Harris Fellow by the Brunswick
Rotary Club in 2000; the Glenn Bryant Award for Outstanding Public Service in
Economic Development to the Coastal Region of Georgia by the Coastal Area
District Development Authority; the Distinguished College Administrator Award by
Phi Theta Kappa Chapters, the Shirley B. Gordon Award of Distinction by the
national chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, and presidential advisor to Georgia PTK
chapters where she started the first "All Georgia Academic First Team"
recognition program; being one of two persons to receive the 2006 Emory Dawson
Humanitarian Award from the Brunswick Elks Lodge; and the Outstanding Service
Award from the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges
and Schools in 2003; and
WHEREAS,
Dr. Lord has worked for 17 years to fulfill the mission of Coastal Georgia
Community College.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body recognize Dr. Dorothy L. Lord and commend her for her outstanding
contributions to Coastal Georgia Community College, the community, and our
state.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Dr. Dorothy
L. Lord.
