A RESOLUTION


Commending police chiefs and other heads of law enforcement agencies in this state and observing a day of recognition in their honor; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, in the State of Georgia, there are more than 565 police chiefs and heads of law enforcement agencies who provide a critical service, managing approximately 35,000 sworn peace officers; and

WHEREAS, one of many goals of the members of the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police is the preservation of life and property of Georgia citizens in a professional and ethical manner; and

WHEREAS, from the time of their initial police chief training provided by the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police, each member has shown dedication to the protection of life and property and continues to dedicate his or her services through cooperation with state, county, and local governmental officials; and

WHEREAS, police chiefs and heads of law enforcement agencies of Georgia have continuously supported efforts to elevate the standards and training of law enforcement managers and have been instrumental in increasing the public´s awareness of methods of preservation of life and property; and

WHEREAS, March 11, 2008, is Police Chiefs and Heads of Law Enforcement Agencies Recognition Day, and it is only fitting and proper that the police chiefs and heads of law enforcement agencies of Georgia be recognized for their many personal sacrifices and outstanding and courageous service to the people of this state.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend each police chief and head of a law enforcement agency in this state for his or her personal sacrifice and outstanding commitment to the people of this state.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Police Chiefs and Heads of Law Enforcement Agencies Recognition Day, March 11, 2008, is being observed in recognition and honor of all police chiefs and heads of law enforcement agencies in the State of Georgia.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit appropriate copies of this resolution to Police Chief Dwayne Orrick, President of the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police, and Frank V. Rotondo, Executive Director of the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police.
