RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Mr. Lee E. Rhyant on being selected 2007 Cobb Citizen of the
Year; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mr. Lee E. Rhyant was selected as the 2007 Cobb Citizen of the Year at the Cobb
Chamber of Commerce's annual dinner on January 19, 2008; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Rhyant joined Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company in July, 2000, as vice
president and site general manager of the Marietta site with more than 30 years
of aerospace and automotive industry experience; and
WHEREAS,
in this position he is involved with Lockheed Martin strategic development,
corporate special assignments and metro Atlanta community and government
relations, and as general manager he is responsible for the 8,000-employee
operation and delivering the world's finest military aircraft; and
WHEREAS,
prior to joining Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company, he served as vice
president of production operations at Rolls-Royce Aerospace; and
WHEREAS,
he holds a Masters of Business Administration from Indiana University, a
Bachelors Degree from Bethune-Cookman College in Daytona Beach, Florida, and he
has completed a number of executive development courses at Harvard University,
London School of Business, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and General
Motors Institute; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Rhyant was named a 2007 Man of Influence by the Atlanta Business League;
received the Justice Robert Benham Award, 2006; Citizen of the Year, SafeAmerica
Foundation, 2005; CEO Diversity Award from the Georgia Minority Business
Association, 2004; Corporate Leadership Award from 100 Black Men of America,
2003; the Outstanding HBCU Graduate Leadership Award, 2003; Georgia Trend/Cobb
Community Service Recognition Award, 2003; Community Service Excellence by the
Cobb Civitan Club, 2002; Who's Who of Atlanta, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006; and
permanent designation of Certified Manager, National Management Association,
2001; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Rhyant serves on numerous boards including those of Bethune-Cookman College,
Morris Brown College, Chattahoochee Technical College, Atlanta Urban League,
Atlanta Area Boy Scouts Council, SafeAmerica Foundation, The Georgian Club, and
the United Way of Cobb County; and
WHEREAS,
he has chaired many major events and speaks nationally at business conferences,
youth leadership forums and schools, as well as at the collegiate level;
and
WHEREAS,
he and his wife, Evelyn, live in Marietta, Georgia, and they have two grown
sons.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend Mr. Lee E. Rhyant on being selected the 2007 Cobb Citizen of
the Year and on his outstanding service to his community and the
state.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Lee E.
Rhyant.
