RESOLUTION
Urging
the Department of Revenue to closely review the use of state-issued purchase
cards; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia has audited several purchase card accounts and is
continuing in its audit of those accounts; and
WHEREAS,
it has been determined that several individuals have used state-issued purchase
cards to pay for unauthorized personal expenditures; and
WHEREAS,
it is possible that additional use of state-issued purchase cards for
unauthorized personal expenditures may be uncovered; and
WHEREAS,
use of state-issued purchase cards for unauthorized personal expenditures
constitutes a taxable event; and
WHEREAS,
the state´s resources should be used ethically, legally, and
conservatively.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body urge the Georgia Department of Revenue to make certain that the
amounts of any unauthorized personal expenditures on state-issued purchase cards
that can be attributed to individuals result in reports in the form of Internal
Revenue Service Form 1099 submitted to the federal and state governments
electronically and in paper form.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the
Department of Revenue.
