RESOLUTION
Commending
and recognizing the Decatur Civic Chorus on the occasion of their 60th
anniversary; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the Decatur Civic Chorus is celebrating its 60th anniversary; and
WHEREAS,
the Decatur Civic Chorus is one of the oldest continuing choral groups in the
Southeast; and
WHEREAS,
the word "civic" is in their name because they not only bring quality concerts
to the public, but they also provide benefit concerts to groups such as the
American Cancer Society, the Red Cross, the Scottish Rite Children´s
Hospital, and many more organizations; and
WHEREAS,
the Decatur Civic Chorus has been recognized for its service on state, national,
and international levels; and
WHEREAS,
touring Europe extensively, they have taken part in three international choral
competitions, twice with the Eisteddfod in Llangollen, Wales, and once in the
International Choral Competition held in Spittal, Austria; and
WHEREAS,
they have also performed in concerts in the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Italy,
Ireland, Scotland, and Germany; and
WHEREAS,
they have been heard in concerts throughout southeastern United States in
churches and hospitals and have appeared in concerts at Disney World, the
World´s Fairs in Knoxville and New Orleans, Spoleto in Charleston, and in
the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C.; and
WHEREAS,
the Decatur Civic Chorus has sung for many famous people and in many prestigious
places; and
WHEREAS,
they have opened and hosted every DeKalb International Choral Festival since its
inception in 1991; and
WHEREAS,
on May 25, 2008, they will perform the National Memorial Day Concert in Kennedy
Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body recognize and commend the Decatur Civic Chorus on the occasion of
their 60th anniversary.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit a copy of this resolution to Director Mary Anne Sharp.
