RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Reverend Caroline Leach Stroupe; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
Reverend Caroline Leach Stroupe was born on July 3, 1947; and
WHEREAS,
she is married to Reverend Gibson "Nibs" Stroupe and together they have two
children, a son and daughter;
WHEREAS,
she graduated in 1965 from Brainard High School in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and
attended college at the University of Chattanooga where she graduated with an A.
B. in Sociology in 1969; and
WHEREAS,
she obtained a Masters in Divinity from Columbia Seminary in Decatur, Georgia in
1972 and was ordained to preach on June 24, 1973 at the Presbytery of Greater
Atlanta; and
WHEREAS,
she has served alongside her husband as Associate Pastor of Oakhurst
Presbyterian Church from 1985 until the present, where she is responsible for
Christian education for a multi-ethnic congregation and coordination of
community ministries; and
WHEREAS,
from 1993 through 1995, she was the administrative coordinator for the Decatur
Youth Business Organization, City of Decatur Schools and because of her efforts
and the congregation at Oakhurst Presbyterian Church, the youth employment
program now stands on its own; and
WHEREAS,
she has worked with the Decatur High Vocational Department which is a program of
the City Schools of Decatur; the Teen Parent JTPA program; Save the Children:
Low Income Children Project; and was an Associate Dean of Students at Columbia
Seminary for three years; and
WHEREAS,
she currently serves on Presbyterian Answer to Hunger (PATH); the community
ministries team for Greater Atlanta Presbytery; the City of Decatur Schools
Networking Committee; the DeKalb County Task Force on Teenage Pregnancy; the
South Decatur Community Development Corporation; the board of the Grandparent
Project at Georgia State University; the board of the Calvin Center for Greater
Atlanta Presbytery; leads workshops on multicultural churches; has worked with
DeKalb HIV Forum; and she is a past member of the Presbyterian Health Education
and Welfare Association; and
WHEREAS,
from 2007 through 2008, she was selected to be part of the S3 (Sabbath, Study
and Service) groups for Columbia Seminary, and in 2008 she was named Peacemaker
of the Year for Greater Atlanta Presbytery.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body join in recognizing Reverend Caroline Leach Stroupe for her many years
of service to her faith, her community, and our state.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Reverend
Caroline Leach Stroupe.
