A RESOLUTION


Remembering and honoring the life of Eli Austin Stafford; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Eli Austin Stafford was born in Claxton, Georgia, graduated from Collins High School, and served in the Georgia Army National Guard, 48th Division, 560th Combat Engineering Battalion, Company "C"; and

WHEREAS, he was married to Lily Mae Brown Stafford for 54 years and together they raised four sons; and

WHEREAS, he was a member of the Alpha United Methodist Church where he served actively as a lay leader, chairman of the administrative board, Sunday school teacher, secretary of the District United Methodist Men's Association, qualified lay speaker in the district, delegate to the South Georgia Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, and member of the conference evangelism committee; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Stafford initially went to work for Central Georgia Gas Company and Life Insurance of Georgia before beginning a very prosperous and productive career with Union Camp Company, where he served as president and business agent of Union Local No. 1391 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, as chairman of the Joint Maintenance Unions of Union Camp Company, and as chairman of the insurance committee of the Joint Maintenance Unions; and

WHEREAS, he had an outstanding, active, and long career as a Mason which began in 1956, during which time he received the highest honor that can be bestowed upon a member of the Craft, that being the title of "Most Worshipful", and he was installed as Grand Master, Grand Lodge of Georgia, Free and Accepted Masons, on October 25, 2006; and

WHEREAS, his commitment to his family, community, and state will long be remembered by all who knew him.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body join together to express their deepest regret at the passing of Mr. Eli Austin Stafford and extend their most sincere condolences to his family and friends.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Mr. Eli Austin Stafford.
