RESOLUTION
Honoring
and celebrating the life of Mrs. Mildred Morse Hunter; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Mildred Morse Hunter, born March 9, 1923, in Valdosta, Georgia, exemplifies
what it truly means to be of service to others and to make a difference in this
world; and
WHEREAS,
she obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from Fort
Valley State University, a Master of Education degree in elementary education at
Valdosta State University, and went on to further her studies at Savannah State
University, Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, and Tuskegee
University; and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Hunter worked for the Lowndes County Board of Education and for the
Valdosta Board of Education for more than 36 years before retiring in June of
1983, and during this time, she was widely recognized throughout this state as
the personification of excellence in education; and
WHEREAS,
she has dedicated her life to making her community and the world around her a
better place by sharing her talents and volunteering with many community service
organizations; and
WHEREAS,
she is a member of Macedonia First Baptist Church and has served more than 30
years as the Minister of Music in addition to acting as the church̓s
treasurer and superintendent of the Sunday school; and
WHEREAS,
she has received numerous awards and tributes, including the establishment of a
scholarship in her name; having a Valdosta parks and recreation center named for
her; receiving the Black Heritage Award of the Black Heritage Committee of Moody
Air Force Base, the Distinguished Service Award of Fort Valley State University,
the Distinguished Social Science Education Award, the “Woman of the
Year” Award of Macedonia First Baptist Church, the Unsung Hero Award of
the Congressional Black Caucus of Washington, D.C.; and becoming the first
recipient of the Martin Luther King Humanitarian Award; and
WHEREAS,
she was married to the late Mr. Gaines Hunter for 42 years and raised a
wonderful, loving family which includes their three children, seven
grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body honor and celebrate the life of Mrs. Mildred Morse Hunter and
recognize her for her outstanding accomplishments and extend their sincerest
best wishes for her continued success.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mrs. Mildred Morse Hunter.
