RESOLUTION
Honoring
the memory of Mr. John Paul Souther and expressing regret at his passing; and
for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
John Paul Souther was a distinguished World War II veteran and became a noted
Georgia author with his nonfiction accounts, "War Not Forgotten" and "Between
the Bald and the Blood"; and
WHEREAS,
he was a highly decorated officer, receiving honors such as the Silver Star, the
Croix de Guerre, the Army Commendation Medal, and the Victory Medal;
and
WHEREAS,
he was commissioned Second Lieutenant upon graduation from the University of
Georgia, with a Bachelor of Science in Forestry; and
WHEREAS,
his professional life included employment with the Georgia Department of Labor,
J.D. Jewell, R.W. Parks Hatchery and Feed, Republic Steel, and Jackson EMC;
and
WHEREAS,
in retirement he remained active, managing a number of single and multi-family
apartment properties and farms, as well as a multi-tenant office building in
downtown Gainesville, The Jackson Building, in which he shared ownership with
his wife; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Souther was married to the late Virgina Parks Souther with whom he
celebrated 65 years of marriage; and
WHEREAS,
while in life he commanded the esteem of his fellow Georgians, in his death we
mingle our sympathies with the grief of his family and friends.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body honor the memory of Mr. John Paul Souther and express their regret at
his passing.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Mr. John Paul Souther.
