RESOLUTION
Commending
Pastor Eddie D. Smith, Sr.; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Pastor Eddie D. Smith, Sr., was born in Macon, Georgia, the son of the late
Reverend Jack Smith and Mattie Mae Smith; and
WHEREAS,
he graduated from the Bibb County public schools and earned Bachelor of Science
and Master of Science degrees from Fort Valley State College, and he served as a
teacher and media specialist with the Bibb County public schools until he
received the call to ministry in August of 1972, when he accepted the pastorate
of Macedonia Baptist Church in Macon, Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
while serving as pastor, he also served on the Macon City Council from 1975 to
1978 and served two terms on the Bibb County Board of Education, as well as
serving in a leadership position with the United Way, the American Cancer
Society, the Macon Ministerial Association, and the Macon Police and Firefighter
Disciplinary Hearing Board; and
WHEREAS,
his innumerable duties and responsibilities include conducting worship services
and Bible study sessions; financing the ministry as the Bible mandates, through
tithes and offerings only; establishing an audio-video ministry; recording three
albums; hosting an annual, all-night prayer, praise, and preaching party; and
many other such activities; and
WHEREAS,
he and his lovely wife, Martha Kate Smith, have five children, Suwandia,
Edwanna, Eddie, Jr., Corey, and the late Alvy, and 11
grandchildren.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend Pastor Eddie D. Smith, Sr., for his service to his
community.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Pastor Eddie
D. Smith, Sr.
