RESOLUTION
Honoring
the memory of Virginia Parks Souther and expressing regret at her passing; and
for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
news of the passing of Virginia Parks Souther, late of Gainesville, Georgia, is
received with deep regret by this body; and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Souther was a lifelong resident of Gainesville, where she survived the
great 1936 tornado, which struck her home directly; and
WHEREAS,
she attended Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville, before graduating
with honors from the University of Georgia in 1941 with a Bachelor of Science in
Home Economics; and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Souther worked for 15 years with the Hall County Department of Family and
Children's Services, first as a caseworker and ultimately as director, and was
involved in organizations such as the Professional Advisory Committee of the
North District Home Health Agency, the Women's Division of the Chamber of
Commerce, and the Ninth District Georgia County Welfare Association;
and
WHEREAS,
she was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, where she was a
member of the Open Door Sunday School Class; and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Souther was married to the late John Paul Souther, Lt. Col. (Ret.) U.S.
Army, with whom she celebrated 65 years of marriage until his death just four
months before she passed away; and
WHEREAS,
the passing of this great Georgian leaves an irreplaceable void in the hearts of
many.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body honor the memory of Mrs. Virginia Parks Souther and express their
regret at her passing.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of
Mrs. Virginia Parks Souther.
