RESOLUTION
Remembering
and honoring the life of Mr. Daniel J. Lakly; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mr. Daniel J. Lakly was born August 8, 1942, in Forest Hills, Pennsylvania;
and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Lakly joined the United States Navy in 1959; and after being discharged from
the Navy in 1963, he went on to serve in the Merchant Marines; and
WHEREAS,
he married his childhood sweetheart, Donna Lee, in 1967 and they had three
wonderful sons; and
WHEREAS,
the Laklys moved to Peachtree City, Georgia, in 1978, where Dan became involved
in politics, winning his first city council seat in 1986 and serving until 1987;
and
WHEREAS,
he went on to serve on the Fayette County Board of Commissioners from 1988 until
1992; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Lakly served as a member of the House of Representatives from 1992 until
1998 and again since 2005, serving as Chairman of the Information and Audits
Committee and as vice chairman of the Defense and Veterans Affairs Committee and
as a member of Banks and Banking, Human Relations and Aging, and State Planning
and Community Affairs Committees; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Lakly was a champion for the people of Fayette County and the State of
Georgia and he leaves behind a legacy of service to his country, the state, and
his community; and
WHEREAS,
his vision, compassion, and charm can never be replaced.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body recognize that Georgia has lost one of its most dedicated and
distinguished public servants in Daniel J. Lakly.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of
Daniel J. Lakly.
