A
RESOLUTION
Commending
Emergency Management Agencies of Georgia, observing Emergency Management Agency
(EMA) Recognition Day, and inviting the emergency management directors and
coordinators to appear before the House of Representatives; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
through a coordinated, state-wide network, emergency management services
professionals of Georgia respond quickly, providing life-saving services during
the most hazardous conditions facing Georgians; and
WHEREAS,
both the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) and local emergency
management agencies are ready to provide outstanding emergency assistance 24
hours a day seven days a week for those residents of Georgia most in need;
and
WHEREAS,
these thousands of professionals perform their lifesaving duties through a
complex coordinated network of emergency management responders, first
responders, law enforcement officials, as well as government agencies to provide
one of the greatest, most comprehensive, and quality emergency response efforts
in the world; and
WHEREAS,
the goal of each and every one of these individuals and services is to be ready
to respond regardless of the nature of the emergency event, whether it be a
tornado, hurricane, forest fire, or terrorist attack; and
WHEREAS,
response readiness is achieved through a variety of critical actions including:
state-wide and local preparedness training; weather watch and alert; operational
emergency drills; efficient and effective delivery plans; predetermined
emergency plans for transportation of injured and potential victims; emergency
system development activities; public information and education; improvement of
response methods; and other activities related to the health and well-being of
the citizens of the State of Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
emergency management agency professionals of Georgia continuously support
efforts to elevate the standards and training of emergency responders and
coordinators and have been instrumental in increasing the public´s
awareness of the need to be prepared in the event of an emergency;
and
WHEREAS,
the Governor proclaimed February 3–9, 2008, to be Severe Weather Awareness
Week in Georgia, to educate Georgians about a variety of safety topics related
to family protection during severe weather; and
WHEREAS,
it is fitting and proper that GEMA and local emergency management agencies be
recognized for their outstanding and courageous service to the people of this
state by declaring February 7, 2008, Emergency Management Agency Recognition
Day.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that each director,
coordinator, manager, and staff member of an emergency management agency in
Georgia is commended for his or her outstanding service to the people of this
state and Emergency Management Agency Recognition Day is being observed in honor
of these lifesaving professionals by inviting emergency management directors and
coordinators to appear before the House of Representatives at a date and time to
be fixed by the Speaker of the House for the purpose of being recognized by the
House of Representatives.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Director
of the Georgia Emergency Management Agency.
