RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and congratulating the Columbus High School girls´ volleyball team on
winning the Georgia AAA Volleyball Championship and inviting them to appear
before the House of Representatives; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the Columbus High School girls´ volleyball team has established and
maintained a proud tradition of excellence with equal emphases on character and
academics; and
WHEREAS,
these outstanding young athletes demonstrated considerable talent, discipline,
coordination, and brilliant teamwork throughout the season, supporting each
other and keeping a positive attitude through hundreds of hours of practice and
competition; and
WHEREAS,
this superlative team has completed an exceptional season, posting an amazing
50-11 record and achieving the school´s fourth consecutive 2-AAA Area
Championship trophy in volleyball; and
WHEREAS,
the Columbus High School girls´ volleyball team was composed of the
following fine young athletes: senior Terakka Walker, All Bi-City Player of the
Year; senior Crystal Forman, All Bi-City First Team; senior Tionna Crawford,
All Bi-City First Team; Senior Taylor Buckner, All Bi-City First Team; junior
Kristen Fleming, All Bi-City First Team; freshman Anna Crutchfield, All Bi-City
Second Team; senior Amanda Hurley, All Bi-City Second Team; Juniors Hillary
Hare, Vianca Torres, and Shacoya Coar; freshmen Elizabeth Copeland, Ashley
Foreman, Ashleigh Tompa, and Winifred Kennebrew; and
WHEREAS,
in addition to being named All Bi-City Player of the Year, Terakka Walker was
named the Georgia AAA Player of the Year, Georgia All State, and Georgia Senior
All Star; and
WHEREAS,
Head Coach Donna Fleming, a math teacher, started a brand new volleyball program
at Columbus High five years ago, and up until 2003 she had never coached a sport
of any kind; and
WHEREAS,
Head Coach Donna Fleming received the Georgia AAA Coach of the Year award and
All Bi-City honors as Coach of the Year; and
WHEREAS,
the phenomenal performance of the team is a clear indication of the outstanding
athletic ability, dedication, and hard work of each team member and of the
astute direction of Head Coach Donna Fleming and Coach Rebecca
Hagues.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend the Columbus High School girls´ volleyball team on a
season of unparalleled athletic achievement and congratulate its players and
coaches on winning the Georgia State AAA Volleyball Championship.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Columbus High School girls´ volleyball team
and their coaches are invited to appear before the House of Representatives at a
date and time to be fixed by the Speaker of the House for the purpose of being
recognized by the house and receiving an appropriate copy of this resolution.
