A RESOLUTION


Declaring January 29, 2008, as "Technical College System of Georgia Day" in the State of Georgia; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, since their inception, the 33 technical colleges of the Technical College System of Georgia have been challenging students´ minds, inspiring their souls, shaping their lives, and promoting economic growth in this state; and

WHEREAS, technical colleges in the State of Georgia offer a variety of associate degrees, diploma and certificate programs, continuing education classes, economic development programs, and adult literacy training classes; and

WHEREAS, more than 141,000 Georgia students enroll at this state´s technical colleges each year, and many thousands more take advantage of the colleges´ continuing education and workforce development programs; and

WHEREAS, the Technical College System of Georgia prepares students for rewarding careers in high demand fields, including the strategic industries of aerospace, agribusiness, energy and the environment, healthcare, life sciences, and transportation; and

WHEREAS, a skilled workforce is vital to Georgia´s economic future, and graduates of Georgia´s technical colleges are highly respected and sought after for their knowledge, skills, and abilities by local, national, and international business and industry; and

WHEREAS, the presidents, faculty, and staff of Georgia´s technical colleges are to be commended for their unfailing devotion to their students, their communities, and this great state.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that this body does hereby declare January 29, 2008, to be "Technical College System of Georgia Day" in the State of Georgia.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Commissioner of the Department of Technical and Adult Education.
