RESOLUTION
Commending
and recognizing Jayson Foster; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
senior Jayson Foster quarterbacked for Georgia Southern University football team
during the 2007 football season; and
WHEREAS,
he recently received the 2007 Walter Payton Award, which is awarded annually to
the best offensive player in the country in I-AA football, becoming one of only
two players in Eagle history to receive this prestigious award; and
WHEREAS,
in 2007, he was named Associated Press First Team All-American as a running back
and "Offensive Player of the Year" in a vote by the Southern Conference's head
coaches; and
WHEREAS,
a vote from a national panel of Football Championship Subdivision sports
information directors and selected FCS media from around the country recognized
the role he played in helping his team rebound this season; and
WHEREAS,
his 1,844 yards, second nationally in rushing yards per game, set an NCAA
Division I record for most rushing yards by a quarterback, the second-highest
total in a Georgia Southern University season, and third-most in Southern
Conference history; and
WHEREAS,
he recorded a team-leading 24 touchdowns on the ground; and
WHEREAS,
he completed 109 out of 170 passes for 1,203 yards and six touchdowns, and his
3,047 total offense yards and 431 plays were just two of the multiple records he
set this year; and
WHEREAS,
his personal-best 4.34 time in the 40-yard dash ranks as the third-fastest time
among Georgia Southern University players over the past ten years;
and
WHEREAS, in games that Jayson has started as quarterback, Georgia Southern University owned a 15-7 record, and in 2005 and 2007, he has missed only one start due to an injury, but stilled played in the game; and

WHEREAS,
he ended the year ranked second nationally in rushing yards, third in scoring,
twelfth in total offense, fifth in all-purpose yards, thirty-first in passing
efficiency, and forty-ninth averaging 7.8 yards per punt return.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body recognize Jayson Foster and commend him for his exemplary football
career at Georgia Southern University and wish him the best for the
future.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Jayson
Foster.
