RESOLUTION
Expressing
regret at the passing of Bishop Willie James Toney; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
Bishop Willie James Toney passed away on December 2, 2007, in Indianapolis,
Indiana, after a long and productive life serving the Lord and his fellow men
and women; and
WHEREAS,
he was born on October 28, 1936, in Selma, Alabama, the son of Oscar Toney, Sr.,
and Lucille Fail; and
WHEREAS,
he completed his apprenticeship as a journeyman electrician at Ivy Tech
Community College and retired in May, 2001, 20 years later, from Naval Avionics
Center in Indianapolis; and
WHEREAS,
he was called to the ministry at New Life Community Church of Truth, Inc., in
1992, and he used his talents as a minister and vocalist to give glory to the
Lord for many years; and
WHEREAS,
he was ordained bishop in 2005, and he held several positions at New Life,
including co-founder and national bishop; and
WHEREAS,
he is survived by the love of his life, his wife Sylvia, whom he married in
1975, two daughters, Dannella Toney-Allen and Chasity Jefferson-Toney, seven
grandchildren, five step-children, a brother, four sisters, and a host of other
relatives and friends.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body express their deepest and most sincere regret at the passing of Bishop
Willie James Toney and convey condolences to his family and
friends.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of
Bishop Willie James Toney.
