A RESOLUTION


Urging the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia to include more instruction in classroom management in the required curriculum for teacher education programs; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, a classroom teacher will confront many issues relating to control of the classroom and management of students on a day-to-day basis; and

WHEREAS, if a teacher is not able to manage the classroom, he or she will not be able to appropriately deliver academic instruction to the students; and

WHEREAS, an individual studying to become a teacher will be required to serve as a student teacher as a part of his or her teacher education curriculum and, as such, will receive some exposure to day-to-day issues which may arise; and

WHEREAS, student teaching is recognized as the most influential component in teacher preparation and the capstone experience in a student´s teacher education program; and

WHEREAS, because of the importance of classroom management, it would be beneficial to better prepare individuals studying to become teachers in awareness of such issues and appropriate methods of handling various situations which may arise; and

WHEREAS, the state universities and colleges which offer degrees in education have an opportunity to include greater instruction to their teachers-in-training on classroom management techniques and real world issues that they may face in the classroom.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia is urged to include more instruction in classroom management in the required curriculum for teacher education programs.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Chancellor Erroll B. Davis, Jr.
