Resolution 1028
By:
Representatives Holt of the

and Smith of the

A
RESOLUTION
Commending
Aston Adcock, Katie Wibell, and Sarah Wibell and inviting them to appear before
the House of Representatives; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Aston Adcock, Katie Wibell, and Sarah Wibell, three young archers from Morgan
County, traveled to Rapid City, South Dakota, with their families and their
coach, Nick Nicholson, to represent Georgia at the 2007 4-H Shooting Sports
National Invitational held on June 26-28; and
WHEREAS,
the young women trained for nearly two months after winning the state title in
senior recurve archery at Rock Eagle in May before heading to the national
tournament, and after three grueling days of competition the team captured third
place in the nation; and
WHEREAS,
the Morgan County 4-H Senior Recurve Archery team was different from the other
teams in Rapid City in that most states select their four best individual
shooters from different county teams to represent them at nationals while
Georgia sends the winning county team of shooters from the state tournament, and
because the Morgan County team only had three shooters on it and in the
competition the best three of four scores were counted, every other team had an
alternate shooter for each event; and
WHEREAS,
besides having one fewer archer than other teams, they discovered that they were
the only all-girl team at the competition and three of only a handful of girls
competing in recurve archery; and
WHEREAS,
this was the fourth consecutive state title for Adcock and Katie Wibell, but in
each of the prior three seasons they elected not to compete at the nationals
because they would lose their eligibility to shoot on the Morgan County team if
they did, and as individual shooters they would not be eligible to go to
nationals again, and they decided to wait and improve to have the best
performance at their one time participation in the national competition;
and
WHEREAS, the archers and coach of the Morgan County team are to be commended for their athletic ability and their maturity in achieving an impressive third place in the 2007 4-H Shooting Sports National Invitational.
WHEREAS, the archers and coach of the Morgan County team are to be commended for their athletic ability and their maturity in achieving an impressive third place in the 2007 4-H Shooting Sports National Invitational.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that Aston Adcock,
Katie Wibell, and Sarah Wibell are recognized and commended for their abilities
and perseverance in the sport of archery.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Aston Adcock, Katie Wibell, and Sarah Wibell and their
coach, Nick Nicholson, are invited to appear before the House of Representatives
on such date at a time to be designated by the Speaker of the House of
Representatives.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Aston Adcock,
Katie Wibell, and Sarah Wibell.
