A
RESOLUTION
Honoring
the life of David E. Nordan; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Georgia lost one of its most distinguished citizens with the passing of David E.
Nordan; and
WHEREAS,
David E. Nordan was a journalist of national prominence who was greatly admired
by his peers; and
WHEREAS,
he worked for more than a decade as a political editor and writer for the
Atlanta Journal
and, during his notable career, he wrote
many pieces concerning the Georgia General Assembly as well as important
national political issues facing our country; and
WHEREAS,
he was widely recognized in the journalism community as being one of the first
reporters to predict that President Jimmy Carter had a realistic chance of
winning the presidency, and he wrote a series of colorful and insightful
accounts of President Carter's successful campaign and his inauguration in 1977;
and
WHEREAS,
David E. Nordan also made important contributions to many local publications,
including Atlanta
Magazine and the
Gwinnett Daily
News; and
WHEREAS,
in addition to his acclaimed political reporting, as a native of rural North
Carolina with a deep love for the Appalachian Mountains, he wrote evocative
magazine and newspaper articles about life in the South; and
WHEREAS,
later in life, he passed along his experiences and insights about journalism and
the craft of writing through his work as an instructor at several Georgia
colleges; and
WHEREAS,
his love for journalism was only surpassed by his love for his two wonderful
daughters, Liz and Kelly; and
WHEREAS, David E. Nordan was an honorable gentleman, a true scholar, a talented and outspoken journalist, and a good friend to many, and he will be sorely missed by all who knew him; and

WHEREAS,
it is said that there is no better eulogy for a journalist than to say he was a
great reporter, and David E. Nordan was a great reporter.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body join in honoring the life of David E. Nordan, remembering him for the
many contributions he made to the citizens of this state, and expressing their
sincere sorrow at his passing.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of
David E. Nordan.
