BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
AN ACT
To
amend Code Section 40-6-20 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating
to obedience to traffic-control devices and enforcement by traffic-control
signal monitoring devices, so as to change the civil penalty for running a red
light; to provide for related matters; to provide for an effective date; to
repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.
BE
IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:
SECTION
1.
Code
Section 40-6-20 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to obedience
to traffic-control devices and enforcement by traffic-control signal monitoring
devices, is amended by revising subparagraph (f)(3)(A) as follows:
"(A)
The driver of a motor vehicle shall be liable for a civil monetary penalty of
not more than
$70.00
the amount
specified in paragraph (2) of subsection (e) of Code Section 40-8-76.1 for
failure to wear a seat safety belt if such
vehicle is found, as evidenced by recorded images produced by a traffic-control
signal monitoring device, to have been operated in disregard or disobedience of
a CIRCULAR RED or RED ARROW signal in violation of subsection (a) of this Code
section and such disregard or disobedience was not otherwise authorized by
law;"
SECTION
2.
This
Act shall become effective upon its approval by the Governor or upon its
becoming law without such approval.
SECTION
3.
All
laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.
