BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
AN ACT
To
amend Article 2 of Chapter 5 of Title 36 of the Official Code of Georgia
Annotated, relating to county governing authorities, so as to provide for
minimum salaries for full-time county commission chairpersons; to provide for
related matters; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other
purposes.
BE
IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:
SECTION
1.
Article
2 of Chapter 5 of Title 36 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating
to county governing authorities, is amended by revising Code Section 36-5-24,
relating to compensation of members of county governing authorities, by adding a
new subsection (d) to read as follows:
"(d)(1)
Any other law to the contrary notwithstanding, the minimum annual salary of each
full-time chairperson of a county governing authority who is compensated by an
annual salary shall be the same as provided for tax commissioners in subsections
(b) and (d) of Code Section 48-5-183.
(2)
This Code section shall not be construed to affect any local legislation except
where the local legislation provides for a salary lower than the salary provided
in this Code section, in which event this Code section shall prevail. This Code
section shall not be construed to reduce the salary of any full-time chairperson
in office on July 1, 2007; provided, however, that successors to such full-time
chairpersons in office on July 1, 2007, shall be governed by the provisions of
this Code section. The minimum salary provided for in this Code section shall
be considered as salary only."
SECTION
2.
All
laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.
