The House Committee on Education offers the following substitute to HB 384:

A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT

To amend Part 7 of Article 17 of Chapter 2 of Title 20 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to termination, suspension, nonrenewal, demotion, or reprimand, so as to define the term "disciplinary meeting"; to provide for notice to certificated school employees of such meetings; to provide for related matters; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:

SECTION 1.
Part 7 of Article 17 of Chapter 2 of Title 20 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to termination, suspension, nonrenewal, demotion, or reprimand, is amended by revising Code Section 20-2-941, which is reserved, to read as follows:
"20-2-941.
Reserved. (a) As used in this Code section, the term 'disciplinary meeting' means any meeting with a certificated school employee that is convened for the purpose of issuing a written reprimand or for providing written notice to a certificated school employee regarding demotion, contract nonrenewal, suspension, or termination of employment.
(b) Except in an emergency, a supervisor, principal, or other administrator who initiates a disciplinary meeting with a certificated school employee shall provide written notice to such employee no later than 72 hours before the time of the meeting. Such notice shall provide the reason for the meeting and who is expected to attend."

SECTION 2.
All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.
