A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT


To amend Chapter 37 of Title 36 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to acquisition and disposition of property by municipalities, so as to provide for limitations with respect to the amount of real property one municipality may acquire within another municipality; to provide for an effective date; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.

SECTION 1.
Chapter 37 of Title 36 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to acquisition and disposition of property by municipalities, is amended by adding a Code section to read as follows:
"36-37-11.
(a) Except as otherwise provided in subsection (b) of this Code section, no municipality shall be authorized to purchase or acquire right, title, or interest in real property located within the corporate limits of another municipality which in the aggregate exceeds 20 percent of the total area of such other municipality.
(b) The limit specified in subsection (a) of this Code section may be exceeded upon the adoption of a joint resolution by the governing authorities of the affected municipalities."

SECTION 2.
This Act shall become effective upon its approval by the Governor or upon its becoming law without such approval.

SECTION 3.
All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.
