BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
AN ACT
To
amend Chapter 7 of Title 46 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating
to motor carriers, so as to provide for required equipment in taxicabs; to
provide that taxicab operators shall require photo identification before
accepting a passenger; to provide that a taxicab owner or operator may install a
monitoring camera in a taxicab; to provide that such provisions shall not
preempt any local regulations not in conflict with such provisions; to repeal
conflicting laws; and for other purposes.
BE
IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:
SECTION
1.
Chapter
7 of Title 46 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to motor
carriers, is amended by revising Article 5, which is reserved, as
follows:
"ARTICLE
5
"46-7-100.
Reserved.
(a) All
taxicabs operated in this state shall be equipped with the
following:
(1)
A bulletproof shield between the passenger compartment and the driver´s
compartment;
(2)
A global positioning satellite tracking unit and monitoring system showing the
taxicab´s location at all times; and
(3)
A locking device allowing the taxicab operator remotely to control the locking
and unlocking of the passenger compartment doors.
(b)
Any taxicab operator shall require a passenger to display photo identification
before allowing such passenger to enter the taxicab.
(c)
Any taxicab owner or operator may, at his or her option, install a monitoring
camera in the taxicab.
(d)
This Code section shall not affect any local regulation of taxicabs that are not
in conflict with the provisions of this Code
section."
SECTION
2.
All
laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.
