A
RESOLUTION
Honoring
Gene and Lucia Brantley on the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary; and
for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
on the fateful day of June 10, 1954, Gene and Lucia Brantley met at the Pig and
Whistle in Albany, Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
exactly one year later, on June 10, 1955, Gene and Lucia became engaged and then
began their happy union in marriage on October 15, 1955, in Leesburg, Georgia;
and
WHEREAS,
Gene served as a fighter pilot in the United States Air Force for 30 years and
through his military career, the couple lived all over the world, including
Okinawa; Montgomery, Alabama; Newport News, Virginia; Syracuse, New York;
Albany, Georgia; SHAPE, Belgium; and Houston, Texas; and
WHEREAS,
as they stood out in the mud and rain grilling steaks while in Okinawa, Gene
told Lucia "you'll laugh at this one day;" and
WHEREAS,
Gene spent a year in Vietnam fighting Communism while Lucia stayed in Albany,
Georgia, and kept the home fires burning; and
WHEREAS,
Gene and Lucia spent four years living in Europe buying antiques, alabaster, and
a world globe; and
WHEREAS,
they are now retired and live in Warner Robins, Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
their union has produced three wonderful daughters, Beverley (husband Jim),
Merri, and Sandra (husband Steve) and they are the doting grandparents of five
beloved grandchildren, Clint, Logan, Cara Leigh, Kimberly, and Stephanie;
and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkable couple be appropriately
recognized on this auspicious occasion.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
and congratulate Gene and Lucia Brantley on their celebration of 50 wonderful
years of marriage and extend sincere wishes for many more happy years
together.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Gene and Lucia Brantley.
