A RESOLUTION

Commending Linda C. Ellis; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, with a bacheloŕs degree in speech communications and a master of education in community counseling from the University of Georgia as well as a master of divinity from Emory University, Linda C. Ellis is an educated and active member of the Atlanta community; and

WHEREAS, she has used her talent and expertise to provide outstanding leadership to many local organizations; has served as Executive Director of Ecumenical Atlanta Churches for Housing, Inc., a nonprofit group giving volunteer home construction and repair to inner-city neighborhoods, and Executive Director of YouthPride, Inc., a nonprofit group offering support and services to gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered youth; and, in January, 2002, became the first Executive Director of the Atlanta Lesbian Cancer Initiative, the southeast́s only nonprofit organization dedicated to education, advocacy, and services in support of lesbians with cancer, their partners, families, and friends; and

WHEREAS, she has also served as a consultant to the Emory HIV Mental Health Training Project, a collaborative project of community leaders providing expertise throughout Georgia in the fields of HIV education and prevention and mental health; and

WHEREAS, in each of these capacities, she has worked with great diligence and effectiveness to improve the quality of life enjoyed by the citizens of this state.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body join in commending Linda C. Ellis for her many years of service to the citizens of Atlanta and extend their sincere best wishes for her continued success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Linda C. Ellis.
