A
RESOLUTION
Honoring
Mrs. Josephine F. Hill upon her induction into the Albany State University
Alumni Hall of Fame; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Josephine Hill was born Metcalfe, Georgia, in Thomas County on September 30,
1938, to Joseph and Lossie Fedrick; and
WHEREAS,
she was the oldest of 12 children and was often left in charge of the house when
her parents were away; and
WHEREAS,
she attended Douglas High in Thomasville, Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
with the help of a loan from her elementary school teacher, she attended Albany
State College from 1956 to 1960 and graduated in the top ten in her class; and
WHEREAS,
she went on to teach in Thomas County for 18 years and one of her most rewarding
accomplishments was teaching adults who normally signed their name with an "X"
the ability to read and write; and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Hill retired from teaching in 1992 and now satisfies her desire to help
others by helping the elderly; she enjoys taking the elderly shopping, to the
doctor, preparing their food, doing their laundry, and performing many other
chores; and
WHEREAS,
she enjoys traveling and has been to England, France, Africa, and China, usually
in the company of an elderly person who could not travel alone; and
WHEREAS,
she is currently active with the following organizations: West End Church of
Christ, Metro Atlanta Kiwanis Club, K-Kids Club Advisors, Blayton and Howard
Floral Club, Atlanta Association of Educators, Georgia Association of Educators
(life member), National Education Association (life member), Neighborhood
Planning Unit-J, the Atlanta Teachers Federal Credit Union, Douglas High School
Alumni Association (life member), Georgia Educational Honors and Awards
Committee (life member), Albany State University National Alumni Association
(life member), and the Griffin-Crescent Alumni Chapter; and
WHEREAS,
she was one of the first people from Albany State to be named to Who's Who in
Colleges and Universities and was nominated by a fifth grader she taught to
Who's Who Among America's Teachers; and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Hill is the mother of three sons and four stepchildren and has four
grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; and
WHEREAS,
she is a natural leader who has had a tremendous positive impact on the lives of
others in school and in her community and she continues to use her common sense
with her infectious desire to help others; she has been known to say "all the
education in the world isn't good enough if one doesn't have common
sense."
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body honor Mrs. Josephine F. Hill for her life of service devoted to
helping others through education and in her community.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit appropriate copies of this resolution to Mrs. Josephine
F. Hill and to the Albany State University Alumni Hall of Fame.
