A RESOLUTION

Honoring the life and service of SPC 4 Mathew Vincent Gibbs and offering condolences to his family upon his recent loss in combat; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mathew Gibbs was a member of the 648th Engineer Battalion of the 48th Infantry Brigade of the Georgia Army National Guard serving in Iraq; and

WHEREAS, he was born on August 28, 1983, in Coffee County, Georgia, and he was a member of Lone Hill United Methodist Church; and

WHEREAS, this courageous soldier confronted the dangers, privations, and discomforts of striving to keep the peace in Iraq with fortitude and steadfast resolve, making us as a nation truly proud; and

WHEREAS, Mathew was killed in action on August 3, 2005, in Baghdad, Iraq; and

WHEREAS, he is survived by his wife, Reagan C. Gibbs, his mother, Jenny Lynn Meeks Thompson, his father, Paul Vincent Gibbs, his daughters, Ariana and Arissa Gibbs, his brother, Derek Gibbs, his sister, Sarah Fussell, his grandparents, Martha Meeks and Ellard Garfield and Florence Gibbs, his niece, Cady Fussell, parents in law, Ronnie and Lee Carver, and his brother in law, Brent Carver; and

WHEREAS, all Americans owe a debt of gratitude to the men and women of our armed forces who risk their lives in the defense of freedom and to secure the blessings of liberty for this nation and other peoples of the world.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body honor SPC 4 Mathew Vincent Gibbs for making the ultimate sacrifice in his courageous and dedicated service to our nation and the most sincere condolences are offered to his family and loved ones.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to SPC 4 Mathew Vincent Gibbś parents and to his loving and devoted wife.
