A RESOLUTION

Commending and congratulating Susan D. Ruthven; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Susan D. Ruthven was sworn in as a United States citizen on August 24, 2005; and

WHEREAS, a Canadian native who hails from Brockville, Ontario, she had held permanent resident status in the United States for five years before becoming a naturalized citizen; and

WHEREAS, even prior to becoming a citizen, she had demonstrated her commitment to this country and had contributed to its promise by her willingness to learn its history, traditions, and governing process and to share its values and ideals; and

WHEREAS, as a staff member of the Georgia House of Representatives since October 1999, she has earned the respect and affection of the legislative community and, in a gesture of supreme solidarity that merits the most sincere appreciation, she has even learned to speak "Southern"; and

WHEREAS, in her love for this country and her wish to become a full partner in the American family, she has happily endured the burdens of the bureaucratic process and has inspired those of us who have witnessed her journey to full American citizenship.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body congratulate Susan D. Ruthven on becoming a naturalized American citizen entitled to the same rights and privileges enjoyed by those native born to the United States and extend to her sincere best wishes for great success and happiness in the years to come.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution Susan D. Ruthven.
