A RESOLUTION

Commending the volunteers from Henry County for their outstanding service to evacuees from Hurricane Katrina; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, an estimated 11,000 evacuees from Hurricane Katrina began flowing into Henry
County's disaster relief shelter in the past several days; and

WHEREAS, over 150 volunteers spent their time at the shelter doing various jobs in order to assist the tremendous number of evacuees; and

WHEREAS, some of the services provided to the evacuees included serving hot meals, providing showers, gas vouchers, personal hygiene items, medical aid, and counseling; and

WHEREAS, the Henry County volunteers canceled their own plans in order to show their love and support for the evacuees; and

WHEREAS, Mike Turner is the Henry County Director of Public Safety and he deserves special commendation; and

WHEREAS, the volunteers are still working to satisfy their mission: "Nobody leaves here without a place to stay, food, toiletries, medical care, and counseling."

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Mike Turner and all of the volunteers at the Henry County disaster relief shelter and express their sincere gratitude for all of the hard work and assistance they have provided.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mike Turner on behalf of all of the volunteers who participated in this valiant effort to help those in need.
